Oven-baked chicken-fried steaks with creamy mushroom gravy for a comforting meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 (4 ounce) cube steaks
  • 1 cup peanut or vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 pinch seasoned salt, or to taste
  • 1 pinch garlic powder, or to taste
  • 1 pinch black pepper, or to taste
  • 0.66666668653488 cup finely diced onion
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 2 (4.5 ounce) cans sliced mushrooms with juice
  • 0.5 (10.75 ounce) can water, or as needed
Instructions:
  • First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease a 9x12-inch baking dish. Next, place the flour in a shallow dish and coat the steaks evenly by dredging them in the flour.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sear the steaks in peanut oil for 5 to 8 minutes per side until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  • Layer half of the fried cube steaks into the prepared baking dish and lightly season with seasoned salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Scatter half of the diced onions over the steaks. Repeat with the remaining steaks, seasoning, and onions to create a flavorful double layer.
  • Empty the condensed soup into a bowl. Using the empty soup can, drain the mushroom juice into it, then add water to fill the can. Whisk the liquid and mushrooms into the soup, and pour the mixture over the layered steaks.
  • Bake covered in a preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, lower the heat to 300°F (150°C) and bake for another 30-45 minutes until the onions are tender and the gravy is thick and bubbling.
