Cheesy pork sausage pasta casserole for a comforting family dinner.
Ingredients:
  • 2 2/3 cups uncooked penne pasta (8 oz)
  • 1 lb bulk Italian pork sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup shredded Italian cheese blend (4 oz)
  • Thinly sliced fresh basil leaves, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and generously coat an 11x7-inch (2-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. Cook pasta in a Dutch oven or 3-quart saucepan according to package instructions for minimum time, then drain and return to the Dutch oven.
  • In a large skillet, sauté sausage, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat for 5 to 7 minutes until sausage is cooked through; drain excess fat. Mix sausage, marinara sauce, and basil with cooked pasta in a Dutch oven; combine well. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  • Combine creamy ricotta cheese, tangy Parmesan cheese, and a luscious egg in a small bowl. Gently spread this decadent mixture over the pasta, then generously sprinkle with a blend of cheeses.
  • Cover and bake for 20 minutes. Then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes until bubbly and cheese is melted. Sprinkle with basil before serving.
