Decadent Southern spoon bread made with creamy cornmeal, perfect for special occasions and holidays.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups light cream
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 pinch ground white pepper
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and generously butter a casserole or souffle dish.
  • In a saucepan over low heat, gently melt together cream, butter, sugar, honey, and salt, stirring occasionally for 2 to 3 minutes. Gradually whisk in cornmeal until thickened but not boiling, about 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer the creamy cornmeal mixture to a large bowl.
  • Slowly blend the egg yolks one by one into the cornmeal mixture until fully combined. Then, mix in the baking powder and white pepper.
  • Whisk egg whites in a glass or metal bowl until stiff peaks form, creating sharp peaks when lifting the whisk. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the cornmeal-egg yolk mixture, then pour the mixture into the prepared dish.
  • Bake until beautifully golden and puffed, around 35 minutes in the preheated oven.
