Indulge in a decadent baked strawberry French toast, prepared ahead for effortless brunch perfection with creamy strawberries.
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 1 loaf day-old Italian bread
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 8 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 0.25 teaspoon almond extract
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish using cooking spray.
  • Cut the bread into 16 slices with a sharp knife, setting the ends aside for another dish. Place the bread slices in the baking pan and gently insert strawberry slices between and around the bread.
  • Combine eggs, milk, cream, sugar, lemon zest, almond extract, and salt and whisk until fully blended.
  • Pour the velvety egg mixture generously over the bread slices. Gently press on the bread to encourage the egg to soak in; a hint of liquid at the bottom is perfectly fine. Allow it to rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the bread is firm when gently pressed and the top is crispy and golden, about 45-55 minutes.
