Fall-inspired Mediterranean dessert with honey, toasted nuts, butter, and spices. Easy, quick, and irresistibly delicious treat. Ideal for cozy autumn days.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Sugar Cookie Mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 8 frozen mini phyllo shells (from 2.1-oz package)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 tablespoons honey
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and generously spray the bottom of a 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine cookie base ingredients in a large bowl until a soft dough forms. Press the dough into the bottom of a pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, combine walnuts, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup butter, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt. Stir with a fork until mixture is well mixed and crumbly.
  • Evenly distribute the nut mixture over the partially baked base. Crumble the frozen phyllo shells over the nut mixture using your hands. Bake for an additional 18 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat 1/3 cup honey, 2 tablespoons butter, brown sugar, lemon juice, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon uncovered on High for 1 minute until bubbly. Mix in vanilla.
  • Evenly pour the sweet honey mixture over the delicate phyllo pastry. Allow it to cool completely for about 2 hours.
  • Cut the bars into bite-sized pieces, drizzle each with a touch of honey, and keep them covered at room temperature until serving.
