Winning Celebration Cupcakes: Sweet and sporty treats for game day!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Assorted colors Betty Crocker™ decorating icing (in 4.25-oz tubes) or Betty Crocker™ Easy Flow decorating icing (in 6.4-oz cans)
  • Assorted food colors
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and line 24 regular-size muffin cups with paper baking cups. In a small bowl, coat chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon of cake mix. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the remaining cake mix, water, oil, and eggs on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally. Fold in the chocolate chips until well combined. Fill the muffin cups two-thirds full with the batter evenly.
  • Bake for 20 to 26 minutes (23 to 30 minutes for dark or nonstick pans) or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Let cool completely for about 30 minutes. Decorate as desired. Store cupcakes loosely covered. Baseballs: Frost cupcakes with vanilla frosting. Use black, red, or blue icing to pipe 2 arches on opposite sides of the cupcakes, curving lines slightly toward the center. Pipe small lines from each arch to resemble stitches on a baseball. Basketballs: Color frosting with yellow and red food colors to make orange. Frost cupcakes and use black icing to pipe a line across the center of each cupcake. On each side of the center line, pipe an arch that curves slightly toward the center. Soccer Balls: Frost cupcakes with vanilla frosting. Use black icing to pipe a pentagon shape in the center of each cupcake, adding a few rows of icing to the center of the pentagon. Pipe lines from the pentagon to the edge of the cupcake to mimic seams. Spread black icing in the center of the pentagon to fill the shape. Tennis Balls: Color frosting with yellow and green food colors to achieve a tennis-ball yellow shade. Frost cupcakes and use white icing to pipe a curved design to create the look of tennis balls.
