Easy California roll recipe for beginners learning to make sushi.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cucumber
  • 3.5 ounces crab sticks, finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 sheets nori (dry seaweed)
  • 2.5 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 2.5 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 4 teaspoons tobiko (flying fish roe)
Instructions:
  • Trim the ends off of the cucumber and slice it into quarters lengthwise. Proceed to thinly slice each quarter lengthwise to create spears.
  • Combine chopped crab sticks with creamy mayonnaise in a small bowl.
  • Place a nori sheet on a bamboo mat. Spread rice evenly over the nori using wet hands, leaving a 1/3-inch edge at the bottom. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the rice and flip carefully.
  • Spread a tablespoon of the crab mixture in a line along the sheet, positioning it about one-third of the way down from the top. Top with 1-2 cucumber spears and 1-3 avocado slices.
  • Roll the sheet tightly into a cylinder using the bamboo mat, starting from the top edge. Moisten the uncovered edge with water and continue rolling until you reach the bottom. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  • Cut each roll into 3/4-inch slices and top each piece with a sprinkle of 1/8 teaspoon tobiko for a pop of color and flavor.
