Grill your holiday turkey with apples, onions, and wine for a juicy, flavorful dish. No leftovers guaranteed!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (15 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 0.25 cup chicken soup base
  • 5 medium apples, cored and cut into wedges
  • 3 sweet onions, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 1 cup butter, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic, or to taste
  • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry white wine
Instructions:
  • Preheat the gas grill on low heat.
  • Massage the turkey with softened butter, both inside and out, then do the same with the chicken base.
  • In a large bowl, combine apples, onions, butter cubes, and garlic. Use this aromatic mixture to stuff the turkey, then place the turkey in a disposable aluminum roasting pan. Tuck the turkey skin around the neck to seal. Flip the turkey over and fill it with wine through the other end until it's full or the bottle is empty.
  • Place the turkey breast side up and insert a pop-up timer or heat-safe meat thermometer into the breast, then loosely cover the pan with aluminum foil.
  • Place the roasting pan on the preheated grill and close the lid, then roast until the breast temperature reaches 170°F (75°C) and the thigh temperature reaches 180°F (80°C), about 4 hours or as needed based on your grill temperature.
  • Uncover the turkey right before it's done cooking to allow it to beautifully brown in the oven. Cover it back up if it starts browning too quickly.
  • Rest the grilled dish for a minimum of 20 minutes before slicing.
