Hearty homemade navy bean soup with sauteed onions, celery, and bacon in a flavorful chicken broth seasoned with cloves and bay leaf.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package dried navy beans
  • 9 cups water
  • 1 pound bacon
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 4 teaspoons chicken bouillon
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 0.33333334326744 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes
Instructions:
  • Boil the beans in 9 cups of water until tender. Allow them to rest for an hour, then drain and set aside.
  • Cook the bacon until it reaches your desired level of crispiness, then reserve 1/4 cup of the grease. Coarsely chop the cooked bacon.
  • Saute onions and celery in the flavorful bacon grease until softened. Keep the juices. Add chicken base, water, beans, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and cloves. Simmer for 2 hours.
  • Incorporate the tomatoes and their flavorful juices, then enjoy your dish.
