Ingredients:
  • 1 small brown onion, finely chopped
  • 400g lean beef mince
  • 1 medium desiree potato, peeled, cut into 1cm cubes
  • 1 small carrot, peeled, cut into 1cm cubes
  • 2 tsp chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 125.00 ml barbecue relish
  • 48.80 gm worcestershire sauce
  • 255.00 gm beef stock
  • 125.00 ml frozen peas and corn
  • 4 sheets ready-rolled shortcrust pastry, partially thawed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 4.50 gm sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • tomato sauce, to serve
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan over high heat, heat oil. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add mince and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon until browned. Stir in potato, carrot, thyme, relish, and worcestershire sauce until well coated.
  • Pour in the flavorful stock, lower the heat to medium-low, and simmer gently for 10 to 15 minutes until the vegetables are tender and the liquid has almost cooked down. Stir in the pea mixture, then remove from heat and allow it to cool for 30 minutes. Enjoy the delicious flavors!
  • 1. Preheat your oven to 200°C/180°C fan-forced, and line 2 baking trays with baking paper. 2. Using a 12cm cutter, make 4 rounds from each pastry sheet. 3. Spoon 1/4 cup of mince mixture onto each round. 4. Brush the edges with egg wash. 5. Fold the pastry over to create a semi-circle, then press and seal the edges to make frills.
  • Place the pasties on trays, brush with egg, and sprinkle with sesame seeds and poppy seeds. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden. Serve with tomato sauce on the side.
