Sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, and flour combine for the ultimate chocolate sponge cake perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Combine butter, white sugar, and brown sugar in a bowl. Mix in vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually incorporate eggs, one at a time, into the mixture until smooth.
  • Combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt by sifting them together in a separate bowl. Gradually mix the flour mixture with buttermilk into the butter mixture until the batter is smooth, adding more buttermilk if necessary to reach desired consistency. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 40-45 minutes in the preheated oven.
