Soft and flavorful gingerbread cookies, perfect for the holidays!
Ingredients:
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 0.75 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.75 cup margarine, softened
  • 0.25 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and place 2 tablespoons of sugar in a small bowl; set aside.
  • Combine flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt by sifting them together in a bowl.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat together butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, then mix in molasses and water. Gradually fold in the sifted ingredients until well combined.
  • Shape the dough into 24 walnut-sized balls using floured hands. Coat each ball by rolling it in the reserved sugar. Then, place the cookies 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets and gently flatten them with the bottom of a glass.
  • Place in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, swapping racks halfway through baking.
  • Take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
