Blackberry Frozen Yogurt

Indulgent blackberry frozen yogurt with tangy yogurt, fragrant lemon zest, and warm spices.
Ingredients:
  • 3-4 cups blackberries or boysenberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups whole milk yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 2 Tbsp brandy (optional)
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, combine blackberries, lemon zest, cardamom, cinnamon, and sugar. Bring to a simmer while stirring occasionally to break up the berries and release their juices. Simmer for 10 minutes, then set aside to cool for 15 minutes before using.
  • Strain berry mixture: Set a sieve over a bowl and strain the berries to collect the syrup. Use a spoon or spatula to press the berries against the sieve to extract all the syrup. Discard the berries and keep the syrup for later use.
  • Combine and cool: Mix yogurt and cream into the berry syrup, cover, and refrigerate for a few hours.
  • Before churning the mixture in the ice cream maker, gently pour in the brandy if desired. Proceed with churning following the manufacturer's instructions. Enjoy as a soft serve right away or transfer to a container and freeze until firm for a few hours.
