Marinated Vietnamese beef skewers atop crisp romaine, drizzled with fresh herbs.
Ingredients:
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks lemon grass, minced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 1.5 pounds sirloin tip, thinly sliced

  • 12 leaves romaine lettuce
  • fresh cilantro for garnish
  • fresh basil for garnish
  • fresh mint for garnish
  • thinly sliced green onion for garnish
Instructions:
  • Combine sugar, soy sauce, pepper, garlic, lemon grass, and sesame seeds in a medium bowl. Add meat and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • Heat the grill to high temperature. Remove marinade and skewer the meat in an accordion pattern.
  • Prepare the grill grate by brushing it with oil and discarding the marinade. Place the skewers on the grill and cook for 5 minutes on each side. Serve directly from the skewers or transfer to lettuce leaves. Sprinkle with cilantro, mint, basil, and sliced green onions before serving.
