Classic baked beans with smoky bacon, caramelized onions, and a rich sweet glaze, slow-cooked to perfection for a nostalgic and irresistible flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups dry navy beans, soaked overnight
  • 0.5 pound uncooked bacon strips
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon dry mustard
Instructions:
  • Pour the soaked navy beans along with their soaking water into a saucepan.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil then lower the heat to simmer until the ingredients are almost tender, should take around 1 to 2 hours. Once done, drain the mixture and save the delicious cooking liquid for later use.
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Layer half of the beans in the bottom of a 2-quart casserole dish. Top with half of the bacon strips and sprinkle half of the onions. Repeat the layers.
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, mix together ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dry mustard until it reaches a boil.
  • Cover the beans with sauce, using just enough reserved cooking liquid to ensure they are submerged. Seal the casserole dish with a lid or aluminum foil.
  • Bake covered in a preheated oven for 1 1/2 hours. Uncover and cook, checking every 30 minutes and adding more liquid as needed to keep the beans moist. Continue until beans are soft and tender, about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours more.
  • Serve the delicious dish piping hot and savor every mouthful!
