Festive braised red cabbage with orange, cinnamon, onion, and apple.
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium orange, halved
  • 1 medium head red cabbage, cored and diced (1-inch pieces)
  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples, cored and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 0.5 medium onion, chopped
  • 0.25 cup vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • Juice one half of an orange. Peel and cube the flesh of the other half.
  • In a large stock pot over low heat, mix together cabbage, apples, onion, vinegar, cinnamon, salt, orange juice, and chopped flesh. Season with pepper, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and reduced, for at least 45 minutes.
