Onion lover's dream bread: Caramelized onions weave sweet flavor into savory loaf.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil
  • 3 cups Gold Medal™ Bread Flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons bread machine or quick active dry yeast
Instructions:
  • Melt butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium-low heat. Cook onions for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until brown and caramelized. Remove from heat.
  • Follow the bread machine manufacturer's instructions and add all ingredients, excluding onions, to the pan. When the Raisin/Nut signal goes off or 5 to 10 minutes before the final kneading cycle ends, add 1/2 cup of the onions (save the rest for later use).
  • Choose the Basic/White cycle with a Medium or Light crust color. Avoid using the delay cycle. Take out the baked bread from the pan and let it cool on a rack.
