Swedish cardamom braid topped with pearl sugar, a festive family tradition enjoyed on Christmas morning.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.33333334326744 cup sugar
  • 1 (.25 ounce) envelope active dry yeast
  • 3 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 2 egg whites, slightly beaten
  • pearl sugar, or other decorative sugar
Instructions:
  • Simply follow the manufacturer's instructions and add ingredients to the bread machine pan. Choose the dough cycle and start the machine.
  • After the dough cycle finishes, separate it into three equal portions. Roll each piece into a 12 to 14-inch rope. Next, braid the three ropes together, tucking the ends underneath. Place the braid on a greased baking sheet, cover loosely with a towel, and let it rise until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) for the perfect bake.
  • Coat the braid with beaten egg white and sprinkle with pearl sugar, then bake in a preheated oven until beautifully golden, for 20 to 25 minutes.
