Impress your guests with these simple and spooky Halloween cookies.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • Coarse white sparkling sugar, if desired
Instructions:
  • In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter and 1/2 cup of powdered sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Mix in 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Gradually blend in the flour on low speed. Shape the dough into a flattened round, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface. Use a 3-inch bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Arrange cutouts 1 inch apart on the cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, just until the edges turn a light golden brown. Let them sit for 5 minutes before transferring them from the cookie sheets to the cooling racks. Allow them to cool completely, which should take about 20 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, remaining 3/4 teaspoon of vanilla, and milk until smooth. Dip the cookie tops in the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Sprinkle with sparkling sugar and place on a cooling rack to set.
