Quick and delicious heart-healthy beef burgers, ready in just 25 minutes by broiling.
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup fat-free cholesterol-free egg product or 2 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons fat-free (skim) milk
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard or horseradish sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup soft bread crumbs (about 2 slices bread)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (1/4 cup)
  • 1 pound extra-lean ground beef
  • 6 whole-grain hamburger buns, split and toasted
Instructions:
  • Preheat the broiler. Grease the broiler pan rack with cooking spray.
  • Combine egg product, milk, mustard, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Add bread crumbs, onion, and beef. Shape into 6 patties, each 1/2 inch thick, and place on a rack in a broiler pan.
  • Broil the patties with the tops 5 inches from the heat for about 6 minutes. Turn them and continue to broil until a meat thermometer inserted in the center reads 160°F, which should take about 4 to 6 minutes more. Serve the patties in buns.
