Get two loaves of delicious tangy-sweet white bread.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 0.75 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1.5 cups buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 6.5 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions:
  • Combine yeast and sugar in warm water in a small mixing bowl. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes until creamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine buttermilk, butter, honey, and the yeast mixture. Add salt and two cups of flour, then whisk until well combined. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition with a wooden spoon. Once the dough comes together, transfer it to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 6 minutes until smooth and supple.
  • Oil a large mixing bowl and coat the dough with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, approximately 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) for a perfect bake.
  • After deflating the dough, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Divide it into two equal parts and shape them into loaves. Put the loaves into two greased 9x5 inch loaf pans. Cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise until doubled, approximately 40 minutes.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for around 30 minutes, or until loaves are golden on top and sound hollow when tapped underneath.
