Create a festive Cake Ball Christmas Tree using Betty Crocker™ cake mix for a convenient and adorable holiday treat that will impress your guests.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1 cup from 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting (from 16-oz container)
  • 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 3 1/2 cups green candy melts (from two 12-oz bags)
  • 1 teaspoon yellow candy sprinkles
  • 2 tablespoons Betty Crocker™ Decorating Decors holiday candy sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare the cake according to the instructions on the box for a 13x9-inch pan. Allow the cake to cool completely, which takes about 1 hour.
  • Cover a large cookie sheet with waxed paper. In a big bowl, crumble the cake. Add frosting and mix thoroughly. Shape the mixture into 49 (1 1/2-inch) balls and place them on the cookie sheet. Freeze for about 1 hour until firm, then transfer to the refrigerator.
  • Microwave chocolate chips and oil in a small bowl on High for 20 to 40 seconds until smooth. Take 4 balls out of the refrigerator. Use two forks to coat each ball in melted chocolate; shake off the excess chocolate. Place on a waxed paper-lined cookie sheet.
  • Place the candy melts in a 2-quart microwavable bowl and microwave them uncovered on Medium (50%) for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Stir the melts and continue microwaving and stirring in 30-second increments until completely melted and smooth.
  • Take 1 ball out of the refrigerator. With 2 forks, coat and roll the ball in green coating, gently shaking off any extra. Place the coated ball on a cookie sheet and quickly sprinkle with yellow candy sprinkles.
  • Take out a few balls from the refrigerator and dip and roll them in the green coating. Make sure to do this one ball at a time, gently shaking off any excess coating. Place the coated balls on a cookie sheet and sprinkle the top immediately with holiday candy sprinkles.
  • Chill the cake balls with the coating for about 10 minutes until firm in the refrigerator.
  • Arrange the cake balls on a serving tray to create a festive Christmas tree: Start with the yellow sprinkled ball at the top for the star, then form a tree shape with the green cake balls as shown in the photo. Finally, place the chocolate-coated balls at the base of the tree for the trunk. Store the tray loosely covered in the refrigerator.
