Hearty beef and tomato sauce tossed with spaghetti, topped with Italian sausage and Parmesan cheese. Perfect for a special occasion.
Ingredients:
  • 2 Italian sausage links, casings removed
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.25 cup chopped fresh oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (16 ounce) package uncooked spaghetti
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
  • Cut the sausages lengthwise but keep them intact on one side. Lay them flat in a large skillet and cook over medium heat for 15 minutes, flipping once, until they are golden brown and fully cooked. Transfer the sausages from the skillet and set aside.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, olive oil, onion, and garlic for approximately 10 minutes until onion is translucent and beef is browned. Reserve 2 tablespoons of fat. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and bay leaf. Simmer uncovered over low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Discard the bay leaf before serving.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Boil pasta in salted water for 8-10 mins until tender. Drain and toss with sauce.
  • Transfer hot, sauced pasta onto oven-safe plates. Top each serving with an opened, cooked sausage and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. Bake in preheated oven for 5 to 10 minutes until cheese is melted and slightly browned.
