Elevate your holiday pudding with zesty candied orange peel.
Ingredients:
  • 3 oranges
  • 393.75 gm brand white sugar
Instructions:
  • Carefully remove the orange peel with a sharp knife or vegetable peeler, making sure to trim off any white pith. Slice the peel into thin strips.
  • In a medium heavy saucepan over medium heat, stir together 3/4 cup of sugar and 3/4 cup of water until the sugar dissolves.
  • Simmer the orange peel until it turns tender and the syrup thickens, approximately 20 minutes.
  • Place the peel and syrup in a small bowl and chill until cold. Serve the orange peel with or without syrup, or toss in sugar after draining.
  • Drain the syrup from the candied orange peel. Toss the cooked orange peel with the remaining 1 cup sugar on a baking tray to coat.
  • On a small baking sheet lined with foil, lay out the sugar peels in a single layer, ensuring they are separated. Allow them to dry at room temperature for about 1 day or until the coating is dried.
