Savory French onion dip elevated with rich beef bouillon and zesty Worcestershire sauce, ideal for any party.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups diced yellow onions
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cup water, or more if needed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon beef base (such as Better than Bouillon®)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 pint sour cream
Instructions:
  • In a large saute pan, heat oil over medium heat until shimmering for about 2 minutes. Sauté onions for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in 1/2 cup water, Worcestershire sauce, beef base, onion powder, and thyme. Increase heat, bring to a boil, and stir constantly until beef base is fully dissolved.
  • Simmer gently for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally until the liquid reduces and onions caramelize. If onions stick, add a splash of water to deglaze. Adjust seasonings with sugar, salt, and pepper to taste. Cool to room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
  • Combine the caramelized onions with velvety sour cream until fully blended. Refrigerate for 1 hour prior to serving.
