Brown sugar, sriracha, and five-spice powder elevate this char siu chicken to irresistible perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sherry
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
  • 12 skinless, boneless chicken thighs
Instructions:
  • Combine brown sugar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, Sriracha sauce, sherry, food coloring, garlic, sesame oil, five-spice powder, and liquid smoke in a bowl. Transfer mixture to a resealable plastic bag. Place chicken thighs into the bag, remove air, and seal. Gently toss to coat chicken with marinade. Refrigerate for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare the roasting pan by lining it with aluminum foil and placing a roasting rack inside.
  • Transfer the marinated chicken to the rack in the roasting pan.
  • Transfer the flavorful marinade into a saucepan. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 3 to 5 minutes. Finally, remove the saucepan from the heat source.
  • Roast the chicken in the oven, rotating and glazing with marinade intermittently, until the juices are clear, for approximately 1 hour. Make sure a meat thermometer reads 165°F (74°C) when inserted into the thickest part of the thigh.
