Create homemade honey-walnut shrimp for a delicious twist on the beloved Chinese dish - crispy fried shrimp paired with sweet caramelized walnuts and creamy honey mayo.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon egg white
  • 8 ounces uncooked medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 0.5 cup walnut halves
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 0.5 tablespoon honey
  • 0.5 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 0.33333334326744 cup cornstarch
  • vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, combine egg white and salt, then add shrimp and toss until evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to marinate.
  • 1. Bring water to a lively boil in a small saucepan. Stir in sugar and cook until dissolved, for about 1 minute. Add walnuts and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook, stirring occasionally, until syrup thickens and transforms into a rich dark caramel color, taking 4 to 7 minutes.
  • Prepare a baking sheet by lining it. Spread out the walnuts on the baking sheet, making sure to leave space between each piece. Allow them to cool.
  • Combine mayonnaise, honey, condensed milk, and lemon juice in a small bowl to create a delicious dressing.
  • Pat dry the shrimp to remove any excess liquid. Coat the shrimp in cornstarch by tossing them in a plastic sandwich bag in batches.
  • In a medium to large pot, heat 2 to 3 inches of oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C. Carefully add shrimp in batches to the hot oil and fry until golden brown, approximately 3 minutes per batch. Then, transfer to paper towels to maintain crispiness.
  • Drizzle the honey dressing over the shrimp and sprinkle with walnuts.
