Simple and decadent chocolate cookies, sure to be a hit at any bake sale with colorful candy toppings.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.33333334326744 cup butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 cups candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (such as M&M's®)
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Combine and sieve flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl, then set aside the dry ingredients.
  • In a large bowl, blend brown sugar, shortening, white sugar, and butter together using an electric mixer until creamy and light at medium-high speed. Mix in eggs one at a time until fully combined. Add vanilla extract and water; blend until smooth.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter-sugar mixture until fully combined. Set aside 1/2 cup chocolate candy pieces and gently fold the rest into the batter.
  • Scoop batter using a rounded tablespoon onto the cookie sheets without greasing them. Gently press a few of the candies set aside onto the top of each cookie.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 7 to 9 minutes until golden, then cool on a baking rack.
