Irresistible cocoa cereal coated in chocolate and marshmallows, perfect for holiday snacking.
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 bag (10 oz) large marshmallows (5 cups)
  • 8 cups Cocoa Puffs™ cereal (from 11.8-oz box)
  • 3 bags (12 oz each) semisweet chocolate chips or 36 oz (from two 24-oz packages) chocolate-flavored candy coating
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • Black sugar and/or black candy sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Prepare a 13x9-inch pan by lining it with foil and generously spraying it with cooking spray.
  • In a 4-quart microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High for about 1 minute until melted. Add marshmallows and toss to coat. Microwave for 2 minutes, stirring after each minute, until mixture is smooth. Add cereal and mix well.
  • Press cereal mixture into pan firmly. Use cooking spray on hands to prevent sticking. Cover with waxed paper and press another pan on top to compact bars. Let cool for 1 hour. Then remove bars from pan and foil, cut into 48 squares. Place squares on waxed paper lined cookie sheet.
  • In a microwave-safe 1-quart bowl, heat 12 oz of chocolate and 1 tablespoon of shortening on High for 1 minute 30 seconds. Stir well. Microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring each time, until the mixture is melted and smooth. Dip and roll each cereal square in the chocolate coating using two forks. Place the coated squares on a cookie sheet. Repeat process twice to use up all the chocolate, shortening, and cereal squares.
  • Decorate the coated squares with black sugar and/or sprinkles. Chill in the freezer for 15 minutes or in the refrigerator for 30 minutes until the chocolate is firm. Keep in an airtight container or sealed storage bag.
