Total Time:
Perfectly balanced flavors create a lusciously moist cake.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1.25 cups white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.75 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange zest
  • 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 2 tablespoons orange liqueur
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C, if you're feeling fancy) and generously grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
  • Cream together butter and 1 cup of sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix the flour mixture into the creamed ingredients. Transfer half of the batter to another bowl. Stir in orange rind into one bowl and melted chocolate into the other. Spoon alternating layers of orange and chocolate batters into a greased and floured tube pan. Use a knife to swirl through the batters for a marbled effect.
  • Bake the cake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 50 minutes. Once out of the oven, combine 1/4 cup sugar, orange juice, and orange liqueur, then pour over the hot cake. Allow the cake to cool on a rack before serving. Recipe yields 10-12 servings.
