Chocolate Streusel Coffee Cake

Indulge in a rich coffee cake with decadent chocolate streusel any time of day.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup firm butter or margarine, cut into pieces
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/4 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan) and generously grease the bottom of an 8-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  • Mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl until combined. Use a pastry blender or 2 table knives to cut in butter until crumbly. Add buttermilk, egg, and vanilla, then beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 1 minute. Spread the batter in the pan.
  • Combine all streusel ingredients except chocolate chips in a small bowl and mix with a fork until crumbly. Sprinkle the mixture over the batter, then top with chocolate chips.
  • Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool for 30 minutes before serving warm.
