Transform a basic cake into a joyful Christmas treat with simple and festive decorations!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix (or your favorite flavor)
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • Tray or piece of cardboard covered with foil
  • 2 tubs (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • 3 candy canes, broken to remove curved ends
  • Green colored sugar
  • Assorted small gumdrops, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Follow package instructions to prepare and bake cake in a 13x9-inch pan. Allow cake to cool for 10 minutes before running a knife around the edges and transferring it to a cooling rack. Let it cool completely for about 1 hour. For easier handling, chill the cake in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes until firm.
  • Trim the rounded top off the cake with a serrated knife to create a flat surface, then flip the cake over. Cut the cake diagonally from the middle of one short side to each corner on the opposite side to create 3 triangular pieces. Create a tree shape by assembling the two outer pieces with straight 13-inch sides together on a foil-covered tray, frost the top, and place the remaining center piece on top.
  • - Lightly coat the cake with a thin layer of frosting to capture crumbs. Chill in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes to allow the frosting to set. Fully frost the cake with the remaining frosting, then insert candy cane pieces at the bottom like a trunk. Sprinkle colored sugar on top for a festive touch resembling branches. Decorate the cake with gumdrops as if they were lights or ornaments. Store covered loosely.
