Family-friendly finger food perfect for dipping.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 10 slices sandwich bread, cut into thirds
Instructions:
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, combine sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add cider and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Boil and stir for 1 minute, then remove from heat and stir in butter. Keep warm.
  • Preheat griddle or skillet to 375°F and lightly grease with cooking spray, vegetable oil, or shortening until surface is hot enough for water drops to dance and disappear.
  • Take a shallow bowl and whisk together all the French toast stick ingredients, excluding the bread, until smooth. Dip the bread sticks into the batter, allowing any excess to drip back into the bowl.
  • Place the bread sticks on the griddle and cook for 4 minutes on each side until they turn a beautiful golden brown. Serve with warm syrup for a delicious treat.
