Indulge in a decadent Texas sheet cake - a chocolate lover's dream with scratch-made cake and homemade frosting. Pour on the sticky, sweet pecan-flecked frosting while the cake is hot for a glossy finish that keeps it moist and fresh.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F and generously coat a 15x10x1-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a large bowl; set aside.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, bring 1 cup of butter, water, and 3 tablespoons of baking cocoa to a boil. Remove from heat and pour over the flour mixture in a bowl; stir until fully combined. Mix in buttermilk, baking soda, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and eggs until well blended. Spread the batter evenly into the pan.
  • Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • In a separate 2-quart saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter with 3 tablespoons of baking cocoa and milk until simmering. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Gently fold in pecans.
  • Drizzle the frosting generously over the warm cake. Allow it to cool completely for about an hour before slicing.
