Quick and easy homemade cranberry sauce using fresh or frozen cranberries, perfect for Thanksgiving. Ready in just 20 minutes and can be made ahead of time.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 1 cup (250 ml) water
  • 4 cups (12 oz package) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • Optional: Pecans, orange zest, raisins, currants, blueberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice.
Instructions:
  • Prepare the cranberries: Place them in a colander, rinse thoroughly, and remove any damaged or bruised ones.
  • In a saucepan over high heat, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  • Toss in the cranberries and simmer until they burst: Simply add the cranberries to the pot and let them simmer until they pop, releasing their vibrant flavor.
  • Incorporate the mix-ins: After the cranberries have burst, enhance the cranberry sauce with half a cup of chopped pecans, a pinch or two of orange zest, and optional additions like raisins, currants, blueberries, or holiday spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, or allspice. Adjust seasoning to your preference.
  • Remove the pot from heat and allow the cranberry sauce to cool completely at room temperature. Then, transfer it to a bowl and chill in the refrigerator. Note that the sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. Enjoy this recipe and feel free to share any special twists you added in the comments!
