Tender cranberry orange scones with buttermilk, topped with a zesty orange glaze.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup cold, unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 large orange, zested and juiced, divided
  • 1 cup dried cranberries, or more to taste
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, or more to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) for a perfectly cooked dish.
  • In a food processor, blend flour, butter, white sugar, baking powder, salt, and orange zest until butter pieces are pea-sized or smaller.
  • Slowly pour buttermilk and half of the orange juice into the running processor until dough is sticky and all flour is absorbed. Incorporate dried cranberries evenly. Save the rest of the orange juice for the glaze.
  • Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and gently roll to a 1-inch thickness. Using a knife, cut dough into 12 triangles (or use a biscuit cutter for circles) and transfer to a baking sheet.
  • Bake until golden brown, around 15 minutes in the preheated oven.
  • Mix reserved orange juice and 1 cup of powdered sugar together to create a glaze. Adjust the consistency by adding more powdered sugar until you reach your desired thickness.
  • Take the scones out of the oven and allow them to cool for 5 minutes. Then, place them on a plate and generously drizzle with orange glaze.
