Creamy Herb-Mushroom Sauce

Deliciously rich herb and mushroom cream sauce perfect for chicken, beef, or pork.
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup butter or stick margarine
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped shallots
  • 1 cup thinly sliced mushrooms (about 3 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 1 tablespoon dry white wine, if desired
Instructions:
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add shallots and mushrooms to the melted butter and cook until tender, stirring occasionally.
  • Combine flour, fragrant thyme, and fresh parsley into the mixture. Cook, stirring continuously, until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Slowly incorporate the half-and-half and wine until a smooth consistency is reached. Cook while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens. Serve promptly.
