Spooky movie-inspired chocolate cupcakes, perfect for Halloween!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix (such as Duncan Hines®)
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.33333334326744 cup vegetable oil
  • 1.5 (16 ounce) packages prepared vanilla frosting
  • 1 (7 ounce) pouch prepared chocolate frosting
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 12-cup muffin tins with dark-colored or Halloween-themed paper liners.
  • In a large bowl, mix cake mix, water, eggs, and oil together using an electric mixer on low speed until just moistened, approximately 30 seconds. Increase speed to medium and beat until batter becomes smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes. Fill prepared muffin cups with batter, filling each one 3/4 full.
  • Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, about 18 to 20 minutes. Allow to cool in tins on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Then, transfer cupcakes to a wire rack to cool completely for about 1 hour before decorating.
  • Spread a delicate layer of white vanilla frosting on each cupcake and chill for 30 minutes to simplify the decorating process.
  • Take the cupcakes out of the fridge and add another layer of white frosting. Using a piping bag with a small round tip, decorate the cupcakes with a skull face: make large ovals for the eyes, nostrils with two dots, and a big "stitched" smile for the mouth using chocolate frosting.
