Crispy tostadas made from baked corn tortillas topped with seasoned ground beef and refried beans - a homemade twist on a classic Mexican favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin, or to taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 cup chopped sweet onion, or more to taste
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 6 corn tortillas
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups refried beans
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce, or as desired
  • 1.5 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 tomato, diced
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Combine garlic salt, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, and black pepper in a small bowl, creating a flavorful seasoning blend.
  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown beef, onion, and garlic until crumbly, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off excess grease and set aside. Keep warm as you prepare the tostada shells.
  • Coat tortillas with oil on both sides and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Bake tortillas in a preheated oven until crispy on top, about 5 minutes. Flip and bake for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until the other side is crisped.
  • Warm the refried beans in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until fully heated, for approximately 5 minutes (refer to Cook's Note).
  • Divide the refried beans evenly between the tostadas and spread them over one side of each. Spoon the ground beef mixture over the beans, then top each tostada with lettuce, Cheddar cheese, and diced tomato.
