Ingredients:
  • 300.00 gm self-raising flour
  • 4.00 gm baking powder
  • 1.20 gm salt
  • 9.00 gm sugar
  • 20.00 gm butter, chopped
  • 125.00 ml dates, chopped into 1-2cm pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 150ml milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 200C (180C fan forced) and line a tray with baking paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add butter and rub until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in dates and make a well in the center.
  • In a jug, combine milk and egg, then pour into the well. Gently mix all ingredients until just combined.
  • Knead dough for 45 seconds, then gently shape into 8 individual balls on a tray. Wet hands as needed to prevent sticking.
  • Brush a luscious coat of milk on the scones before baking them to a perfect golden hue for 10-15 minutes. Serve warm with butter and jam for a delightful treat.
