Crispy buttermilk and Old Bay seasoned fried tilapia - a delicious family favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 10 (4 ounce) fillets tilapia
  • 0.33333334326744 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®)
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • Season the fillets generously with salt and pepper, then coat them with a light dusting of 1/3 cup of flour.
  • Whisk buttermilk and egg in a bowl until blended. In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup flour with cornmeal, seafood seasoning, baking powder, and baking soda. Coat fillets in flour, dip them in the egg mixture, and then coat them with the seasoned flour mixture.
  • In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Fry fillets in batches in hot oil until golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side. Place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain and season with salt right away.
