Dirt and Worms Cupcakes

Indulge kids with a fun and sweet dessert - a dirt and worms cake!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1 2/3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
  • Chopped pecans, if desired
  • Assorted candy decorations, if desired
  • 24 gummy worms candy
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line 24 regular-size muffin cups with paper baking cups. Microwave water in a medium bowl on high for 1 minute. Stir in cocoa until smooth. Allow it to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Using an electric mixer, blend in the remaining cupcake ingredients on low speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl constantly. Increase speed to medium and continue mixing for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl frequently. Fill muffin cups halfway.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Frost cupcakes generously. Top with pecans and festive candy. Finish with playful gummy worms, inserting them delicately into each cupcake.
