Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce with tomato, orange juice, honey, and cayenne. Perfect for pork ribs or brisket.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup minced onion
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups Dr Pepper
  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes, about 15 ounces
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • Salt to taste
Instructions:
  • In a pot over medium-high heat, warm the vegetable oil until shimmering. Add the onions and sauté, stirring occasionally, for 4 to 5 minutes until softened and translucent.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the onions as they start to turn golden brown, then mix thoroughly. Let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Blend the sauce in a blender or food processor until smooth. To avoid overflow, blend in batches or gradually add the hot sauce while blending on low speed.
  • Transfer the sauce to a saucepan and simmer uncovered for 1 to 2 hours. Store the sauce in the fridge for several weeks.
