Indulgent winter treats: sweet, fruity mix with crisp crumble topping.
Ingredients:
  • pouring cream, to serve
  • 62.50 ml hazelnuts, roughly chopped
  • 2 x 200g packets dried traditional fruit salad
  • 375g packet dessert figs (see note)
  • 74.25 gm white sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 cloves
  • 125.00 ml wholemeal plain flour
  • 50.00 gm rolled oats
  • 90.00 gm brown sugar
  • 100g butter, softened
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat your oven to 200°C. 2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine dried fruit, figs, white sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and 2 cups of cold water. 3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. 4. Cover and let it simmer for 5 minutes or until the water is almost absorbed.
  • Combine flour, oats, and brown sugar in a bowl. Add butter, then use your fingertips to rub it into the dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Gently mix in hazelnuts.
  • Spread the dried fruit along with the juices in the bottom of a 6-cup baking dish. Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit. Bake on a tray for 30 minutes or until the crumble is golden brown. Enjoy with a dollop of cream.
