Rhode Island-inspired loose-meat sandwich filling with green peppers, onions, and savory tomato trio.
Ingredients:
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 green bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, sauté the onion in the oil until tender, for about 5 minutes. Add ground beef, bell peppers, tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine.
  • Lower the heat to medium-low and let it simmer until the peppers are tender and the beef is soft, for about 4 to 6 hours.
