Simple and delicious honey whole wheat bread with olive oil, perfect for toast or sandwiches. Great for beginners using a stand mixer.
Ingredients:
  • 1.75 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 0.75 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 3.5 cups whole wheat flour, or more as needed, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions:
  • Combine the warm water, honey, and yeast in a stand-mixer bowl, stirring until the mixture turns foamy, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Combine half of the whole wheat flour with the olive oil and salt. Stir with a spatula or wooden spoon until well mixed. Allow to rest for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • With the dough hook attachment, gradually add the rest of the whole wheat flour on low speed and then increase to high until the batter is smooth and no longer sticking to the sides of the bowl, approximately 7 minutes. Cover the bowl with a towel and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
  • Prepare a 9x5-inch loaf pan by lining it with parchment paper, then flour a surface to knead the dough.
  • Transfer the dough to the floured surface, shape it into a loaf, add more flour if needed, and then place it in the loaf pan.
  • Allow the shaped dough to rise in a cozy spot until it doubles in size, which should take approximately 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while you work on the next step.
  • Bake until the top of the loaf sounds hollow when tapped, which should take around 35 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow it to cool for 15 to 20 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack. Let it cool for another hour before slicing to ensure the perfect texture.
