Cozy up winter nights with a classic apple strudel - warm, fruity, and sweet.
Ingredients:
  • 40.00 gm caster sugar
  • 20.00 ml plain flour
  • 0.63 gm ground cinnamon
  • 2 large granny smith apples, peeled, cored, thinly sliced
  • 40.00 ml raisins
  • 1 sheet (25cm x 25cm) frozen ready-rolled puff pastry, thawed
  • Extra flour, to dust
  • 1 egg
  • Icing sugar, to dust
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 190°C. Mix sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Stir in the apples and raisins until coated.
  • Prepare a baking tray with non-stick baking paper. Place the pastry on a lightly floured sheet of non-stick baking paper, sprinkle lightly with flour, and roll into a 30cm x 40cm rectangle. Spoon the apple mixture over the bottom half of the pastry, leaving a 2cm border around the edges with one short side facing you.
  • Roll the pastry into a large log and place it on the baking tray seam side down, tucking the ends under.
  • Mix the egg with 1 tablespoon of water, then brush the mixture on top of the roll. Cut several 2cm-long slits, spaced 2cm apart, on the roll. Bake until golden, usually around 35 minutes. Let it cool on a wire rack lined with baking paper for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with icing sugar before serving.
