Fried corn tortillas topped with beans, cheese, and meat. Perfect appetizer for a festive party!
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups masa harina
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cups warm water, or as needed
  • 1 quart oil for frying
Instructions:
  • Combine masa harina and salt in a bowl, then gradually add water until a smooth and cohesive dough forms.
  • Shape the dough into twelve 2-inch balls, then gently press each one onto parchment paper to create 1/2-inch thick circles.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan until it reaches 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Fry sopes in batches until golden brown on both sides, approximately 30 seconds each. Use tongs to transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and let them cool for 2 to 3 minutes until easy to handle. Pinch the edges of each sope together to create a small boat shape.
  • Place the sopes back in the hot oil and fry until they are golden and fully cooked, which should take an additional 1 to 2 minutes. Remove them from the oil and let them drain on paper towels.
