Succulent shrimp chow mein cooked in sweet soy sauce with veggies - tastier than takeout!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (6 ounce) package chow mein noodles
  • 0.25 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 pounds uncooked medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 (14 ounce) can beef consomme
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 (8 ounce) package bean sprouts
  • 1 (4 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 0.33333334326744 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
Instructions:
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook chow mein noodles over medium heat until al dente, about 4 to 5 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  • While the noodles are cooking, heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté onions until golden, about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in shrimp and cook until pink and opaque, about 5 minutes. Pour in consommé, celery, and salt. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Add bean sprouts and mushrooms, then bring to a simmer.
  • Combine water, cornstarch, soy sauce, and sugar in a small bowl. Pour into the pot and simmer for 5 minutes before serving over cooked chow mein noodles.
