French toast grilled cheese with egg in a hole - a decadent brunch treat!
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup half-and-half
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 thin slices white sandwich bread
  • 2 slices American cheese
  • 2 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 2 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
Instructions:
  • Combine half-and-half, 1 egg, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl and whisk until the batter is smooth.
  • On a clean work surface, layer each of the 2 bread slices with 1 slice of American cheese, 1 slice of Cheddar cheese, and crumbled bacon. Then, place another bread slice on top of each to create a sandwich. Using a 2-inch biscuit cutter or glass, cut out a hole in the center of each sandwich.
  • Melt butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat, swirling to make sure the entire surface is covered. Dip both sandwich rings and cut-out holes in the batter until evenly coated.
  • In the melted butter in the skillet, gently lay the sandwich rings and the cut-out holes. Crack an egg into each ring. Cook until the egg white is set, bread is golden brown, and cheese is softly melted, around 2 minutes on each side.
